Cavaliers bringing in the laurels

Cavaliers bringing in the laurels

It was an overcast evening on September 22, 2024, at Douglas Park cricket ground in Regina. Some of the most distinguished and high-profile guests were in attendance that included government ministers, MLAs, Mayor and others. The game was all but done. Warriors cricket team from Saskatoon needed 45 runs from the last 4 overs with 5 wickets in hand. Anyone who follows cricket and given that this was the Championship game with Warriors having better experience playing in championship games, would have thought Warriors would have this game. However, with some brilliant bowling and big heart shown by Cavaliers, they were able to clinch their first Saskatchewan T20 title in their recent past.

Cavalier Fire on the other hand were also the Division winners in the One-day format. Being short a pace bowler, they were able to nullify that effect and trusted their trifecta of spinners in clinching the title. Fire posted a modest total of 164 in their allotted 35 overs and were able to win with the other team bundled out in 31 overs.

The awards ceremony was also held to celebrate the achievements, and Cavaliers were in full attendance. The awards bagged by them included multiple individual MoM awards, special performances, and four team trophies. It was indeed a spectacular show of support and unity by the Cavaliers, with player family members in full attendance.

The journey forward is exciting for both the teams. Cavaliers Ice will be playing in the prestigious Western JRR tournament in 2025, and Fire will be advancing to the One-day Elite division in 2025. Much is also at stake with a few promising players expected to be included in the provincial and national level teams in the coming years.

Stay tuned.
